Several people asked how ‘our children’ are doing and how the situation is in India.
We can reassure everybody: the children and their families are doing well. The many contaminations are mostly in the north of India. In Karnataka, the state where the foster children live, the number of contaminations remains limited. Hopefully this stays so.
Kits with food were distributed to the many poor people in the diocese.
But of course also in India the lock down is not easy.
Children want to play outside but have to stay inside. With temperatures around 40°C and very small housing this becomes very difficult.
The major problem in India are the homeless people, the many poor people and the labour migrants. The last group works far away from their homes and got stuck when the lock down started. With a lot of help, also from volunteers, they finally succeeded in going back home after 2 months. Trains carried thousands of labour migrants back from the south to the north. Because it is a very long journey they all received a food package.
It is not yet clear when the school will reopen. Normally this should be June 1 but this year it will certainly be later.
